Hosted by Leadership Kerr County, the fifth Annual Easter Festival & Cook-Off is being held on March 30th, at Flat Rock Park in Kerrville, Texas. The event begins Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. and promises family fun, including an Easter egg hunt, CASI Chili and LSBS Cook-Off, Washer Pitching tournament, vendors, music, and more throughout the day until 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Saturday activities begin with vendors, games, and rides, as well as the beginning of the cook-off at 10:00 a.m. Local music artists begin playing on stage at 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., and the Washer Pitching tournament begins at noon, with the children’s Easter egg hunt at 1:30 p.m. There is also a Showmanship Competition from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Barbecue judging for the People’s Choice Tasting competition will run from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
People’s Choice tasting will be between 2 and 4 p.m. Be sure to get your tasting cup at the Information Tent. The chili is really tasty so you don’t want to miss out.
The Kerrville tradition originated in the mid-to-late 1970s, beginning with the Men's Breakfast Club, later becoming the Morning Kiwanis Club. In recent past, the event was hosted by the American Legion Post 208 Auxiliary. Today, the event is hosted by Leadership Kerr County, a program administered through the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce, and is focused on growing and connecting leaders in the community and supporting veterans and military groups. A portion of the proceeds raised through the event will go to support selected military charities and veterans causes.
The cook-off is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society, one of the fastest growing barbecue organizations in Texas, and CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International), dedicated to raising money for charity through the promotion of chili and chili cook-offs.
